My nv4500 when i have it n 5th gear it wants to chatter. I know the nut backs off of them and I was told by previous owner that it was fixed when it got rebuilt. Can I check it inside the side covers or do I have to take it apart any imput would be appreciated.

 

Pull the tailhousing off and 5th gear is staring you in the face.

 

When my fifth gear went I was on the freeway doin 65 and it was like I popped out of gear or had the clutch in. Just dissapeared pretty much no signs of going out. Drove it for months with only 1st, 2nd, 3rd (that had to be floated in) and 4th.

 

Same thing with mine.

 

Took me a sec to figure it out i'm thinkin WTF, then it hit me......sweet no fifth gear and miles of road to go.
