Default compression loss & bad rings?

i parked my truck on a bit of a hill the other day to see how bad my clutch was slipping and it held in every gear except 4th & 5th. i had the hood open and a friend noticed my fan was turning. i think i might be loosing a ton of compression which would explain the major drop in fuel millage and my engine sounding too quiet and not knocking like a diesel. could it be the rings or something else?

ive never noticed anything coming out of the breather. as my truck was rolling backwards in gear with the engine off the fan and belt were turning. i probably should of been a little more clear in the first post.

He was testing his clutch.....but the higher gears will allow the engine to turn from the gear reduction.....you can roll the motor over with the alternator pully and a socket.....I think you are fine. If your starter was shot you could lift up the shutoff solenoid and push the truck and pop the clutch and get it to start.....so IMO things sound okay.

yes your clutch was holding fine, when you rolled back it just rolled the motor over too.... btw thats not how you test a clutch at all.. heres how you do it. first put in 4th or 5th gear, then ease off the clutch while holding the rakes hard. if it stalls out the engine your clutch should e fine if it doesnt your clutch is slipping.
