alright i think im going to order a set soon.

i still think its the trans, because it worked when i bought it then a few months later it shuddered into od, then it started slipping, (it became low on fluid), filled it up and had no overdrive but the slipping stopped

this ring any bells to you guys???

Do you not have OD now? If you ran it out of fluid then there is a good chance its toasted, however, the transmission will only affect vehicle speed if its slipping. Gears are gears, and if you are locked up in OD, the only thing that can affect speed is the engine. Now, 2750rpms sounds like a stock governor to me. You can go another click on the gov springs and see if that helps, but if you are no in OD, then yo are just plain outta gear there.

Edit -
I just ran the math.

33" tire with 3.54 gears and 1:1 transmission ratio (not OD) at 2750 RPMs = 76.3mph. You are not getting into OD.

It could also have some trash in the valvebody, which could also cause it to not go into overdrive. I experienced this with my truck. I thought it was the overdrive solenoid so I replaced it and then it still wouldnt go into overdrive.

okay thanks guys i am going to make the decision that od is gone...

so i guess ill get it rebuilt soon.

what im thinking is that i fried overdrive and the solenoids are putting the trans into a gear that isnt there.

sound like a good assumption?

More or less. Basically either the solenoid is not engaging the OD piston with oil pressure, or the OD piston has overextended due to the clutches being burnt up and the seal is trashed, thus leaving you with 3rd as your top gear. The OD on these transmissions is VERY basic.

Well, you need to pull the shut down solenoid and then the plug in the side of the pump housing. Then you can tighten the springs 1 click at a time. Bar the motor over until each spring comes to a point where you can adjust it. There are 2. You may have to readjust your idle speed after tightening the springs.
