Default Transmission Slipping

Hi yesterday we got a 1998 Dodge Ram 5.9 Diesel it go into reverse fine and drives good in reverse with no problem and it goes into drive but when you hit the gas is starts slipping and i hear a noise like bells. If i accelerate while is in park i hear the noise comming from somewhere in the transmission. Any idea what could be the problem. Thank you guys

Does it do it when in nuetral? Reason I ask is the fluid pumps on those stockers don't turn in park. It sounds like the TC is toast. Is the fluid burnt?

change the fluid and filter. If that doesn't fix it then its toast.

If it goes fine in reverse then the pump is fine.

It flows through the pump in Park, just not the transmission cooler.

What you are describing sounds like rear clutch failure, or low line pressure. I don't know about the sound, but I am willing to bet the transmission needs to be gone through.

If you're looking to rebuild it yourself the service manual has everything you need to know, I rebuilt my 98 using the 2001 service manual. Joel's Garage has an excellent write up on rebuilding a 47rh there are a few differences between the rh and re but well worth the read if you have never torn into a transmission and want to rebuild one yourself.
