Default issues with the charging system

i was on my way to town the other day and my check engine light came on. i also noticed the voltage gauge was down around 11-12, i got the truck home and checked the codes. i got the code 41 An open or shorted condition detected in the alternator field control circuit. i figured maybe the alternator is bad. so i took it to autozone and had them test it. not the problem. i did not find any broken, worn wires, or unhooked connections so what else could it be? i was thinking maybe the crank position sensor??? how salty is a new one from the dealer? anything else i should maybe check? thanks in advance guys

i also got the code 24 Throttle position sensor voltage too high or too low (automatic only). are the 2 issues related? the truck shifts perfectly fine. i was thinkin this code might be due to me usin a potentiometer instead of the tps.

Follow the wire off the battery that goes down to the starter. It will attach to the oil pan rail in a metal grommet that wears the insulation off of the wire and will cause a charging system short. If the wire is worn through you have 3 choices....1-Remove the clamp and the wire off of the starter and slide some shrink tube over the bare wire to reinsulate it and then wrap with some tape to ensure no more problems can be had..OR...2-Remove the cable off of the battery then take the wire off the oil pan rail and remove the clamp andwrap the wire good with electrical tape then reinstall the clamp and place back on the pan rail....3-Order a new cable from Ma Mopar and replace it as many of the rest of us have already.

I actually took mine off the truck down to the local shop here who made battery cables and had one made.It was done a tad longer to relieve the stress of the wire when the motor torques and the factory wire is a tad short. This wire is a know common problem and could be the cause of your issues also.......Andy

alright i will definitely look into that. gotta finish watchin the steelers game first haha. thanks

well today actually is endin really good. the steelers beat the ravens
and i found out whats wrong with the truck. i pulled the crank position sensor n cleaned it n put it back in. when i was hookin up the battery on the passenger side, i noticed the hood light didn't come on. when i grabbed the positive terminal end for the drivers side(corroded as all hell n partially broken), the light came on, let go it went off. i put some zip ties on the terminal end n tightened everything down. fired the truck up and the voltage gauge went up to normal n no check engine light. so it looks like a trip to napa for a 10 dollar terminal end is gonna be the end of this problem. thanks for the help guys
