Default Building bottom end, adding 24v head, questions/ thoughts

I have a bare block sitting in the garage I'm getting ready to build. I want some heavy stuff, but don't want to have a million bucks in this thing either. I know I want to bore 20 over. Whats out there for-
Crank
Rods
Pistons
I'm going to put a cam in it as well, I'm looking to drive this truck on the street and pull a sled from time to time. Mostly street. I've built some gas motors but never a diesel. What can you guys recommend for the bottom end parts? Cam?
Second, I would like to add a 24v head to this motor. I've been told its easier to p-pump a 24v rather do it the way I am. Anyone ever done this, Should I know anything before committing myself to this idea?

they make rods pistons in aftermarket and iff you ar going with the 24v head you will need 24v piston becuase the bowls on a 12v and a 24v are different

Stock crank and Rods will be more than fine. The 24V head will bolt on and you'll need the 24v pistons like said above. You'll have to get a hold of SDX and have a set of injectors built for the pop pressure of the P-pump and 24V injector lines....but they are sold by all kinds of shops.

how much of a gain does it create .. would a good P&P be a better bang for the buck.

I'm not sure.....just what I have heard. The thing is to really P&P a head you need to mill off the intake and that adds to the cost....

Stick with a 12 valve head.
Mahle pistons
balanced bottom end
main studs
girdle
24valve rods
Hamilton cam with a bolt on cam gear
Orings head and block
12mm H11 studs

when buying a 24valve head there are 2 types, one is for the vp 44 pump and one is for the common rail, the common rail also fits on some of the 6.7, but for construction application (looking into what is the difference.

the only difference between the v944 head and the common rail head is that thee is two hole tapped out on the intake side for sensors, that is it, except for injectors but you can get any fuel system to work with these heads (meaning ve p inline a inline vp44 and common rail)

when you are putting a 24 head on a 12 valve the only thing that you really need to do is buy a different camshaft so that it has the lobes for the extra valves, I also see no difference in the connecting rods, the cranks are different but you are not using a 24 valve block so you don't have to worry about anything there.

on pistons, not really sure, if someone can get me a ESN # of a 24 valve truck and a 12 valve truck i will look it up and see what the difference is.

my business partner has switched from 12 to 24 valve with no problems at all, if you would like you can pm me and I'll get him to tell you what he does, and later I'll type it up and post it.

the injector placement on the 24v is different than the 12v thats why you need to swap pistons

the 24v con rod is also stronger than the 12v rod in stock form

not sure if SDX does 24v p pump injectors hopefully Chris or Jamie will chime in

about the cam ... there are no extra lobes on the 24v there are only 12 lifters and pushrods ( 1 rocker for 2 valves). If you want a good aftermarked cam call Zach @ HD cams and he will hook you up.
