oil pressure drop
wondering if anyone could help me out with this . sometimes when i'm driving all of a sudden the check gauges light comes on and the oil pressure is all the way down . and then comes right back up. usually happens at idle and randomly only happens every once in a while.
i was just thinking the sending unit might be bad ..
any ideas?

sounds like you found a good place to start had that problem before on some of the heavy equip we run after the butt pucker factor goes away usually found a bad sending unit or bad ground
and to make sure it is not bad oil press can double check by using a regular oil pressure gauge

Ok I have a 98 5.9 liter Cummings 2500 that is doing EXACTLY the same thing. I also have a 96 5.9 liter Cummings 2500 that has NEVER done this even once.
So did anyone figure this out?

the factory oil pressure gauges in the cluster tend to...well suck.. check your oil make sure its all there, check ground all else fails cant go wrong with a mechanical gauge same thing happens to my truck every once in awhile
thanks for serving btw

Where is the ground located at? So the indicator itself is a bad design and the sender sucks on top of that? I will say this, it is unnerving to say the least. Ya never wanna see something like oil pressure fall to zero...
