Front Driveshaft Question
I am in the process of replacing the u-joints in the front shaft on my 97 Ram 3500. I have it disasembled and would like to replace the cv ball in the cardan joint. Does this come out? If so, what is the best way. Slide Hammer? Thanks for any help
Thanks for your reply Tower Ofpower,
I got impatient , bought the parts and jumped into it. Yes you can replace the part I was referring to, and it has a needle grease port behind it. After cleaning the yoke I noticed a small hole about 1/32 of an inch, this allowed greasing the CV ball joint. Despite the factory crimps on the outside bore, Pulling the CV ball was done easily with a slide hammer fitted with a clutch pilot bearing puller, .I turned the ball 180 degrees and inserted the tool and it released after three slaps.Tapped in the new one and seal ,using an appropiate socket, then greased it. The worst part was the u-joints and the fact that you can not grease the CV ball in the future without pulling the rear u-joint.
