I would almost vote that you've got a blown HG or a bad water pump. But the thermostat is located on the top left hand side of the engine (facing from the front) where the top radiator hose goes in. There's a engine lift bracket and the thermostat housing. You'll see it right there!
If you need help give me a call!

that's pretty bad... just goes to show you that thermostats shouldnt be neglected... i really need to drop one on my truck. it wont warm up unless i get on it hard but i dont like to get on it until its warm... pretty sure the thermostat is on its way out

While we're taking about thermostats, I've got a question? My truck's engine temp gauge is dancing around (it'll jump above 180 then almost go to the red then it'll fall back under 180 and then its everyhwher, and I'm positive now that its the thermostat. The head gasket is good, went to the mechanic once I got home today... What do you all think? Thermostat?

I'm going to flush the radiator this weekend and if it is the thermostat it won't be to much more to add on to the task already at hand but I don't want to buy one unless I have to

wiring to your temp sensor ok? no corrosion? i'd actually throw a new one in to be sure; if your going to throw parts at it i'd throw a cheaper part at it first. if the head gasket is still good... idk if the truck is actually getting as hot as it says it is. could be something simple like a little bit of moisture messing with things. but also as you said; while your at it you might as well throw the stat in there too... or you could take it out an boil it... see if it opens on the stove. if it doesnt open; then get the stat... if it does; just put it back in i guess. its really the only way to test the operation of a thermostat

True, I guess testing it would be the cheapest thing... And all the wires are in almost excellent condition. But at the mechanics yesterday they said I had a small oil leak at the front at the fan was blowing the oil, and I was reading here that the pill box in front is notorious for leaking and getting oil over the radiator and causing it to over heat. So I now have to possible culprits for my problem.
