i'm sure everyone after me is going to say different... but i'd say that as long as your tuning stock pieces you'll be fine. meaning pushing your stock plate forward and adjusting the star wheel and smoke screw isn't gonna hurt anything. when you start replacing pieces then i would go ahead and invest in the gauges. your just using the stock pieces to their full potential and not gonna be pushing any numbers to be hurting anything. i'd look into getting extra air flowing if you haven't already to accomidate the tweaks to the fuel as well. go put you on a cheap open filter from o'reilly (mine was 17 bucks and i got a pvc flange to go between the filter and the hose from lowe's... all together like 25 bucks), and look into if not already maybe a better flowing exhaust. as for the pump tweaks, you should actually start to gain mileage if done correctly.

guages are always a good investment no matter what stage of mods you are doing or planning on. as for intake look around on here for the BHAF intakes, cheap and easy. the pump mpds won't hurt milage per say (so see the smoke you want to make more hahah). loose the stock restrictive muffler. thats a good start. but get the guages for sure. expensive but worth theyre weight in gold.

Well... I did stock mods with the AFC and moving the stock plate forward.. you don't have to have gauges. _However_ as navalseabee said, get the gauges, if you keep bombing the truck you'll need them. They are definitely worth the investment.
