Angry pump timing geat help.......!!!!!!

I worked on my timing for 2 days now. I finally got it figured out how to do this by doing it 20 times.... I over checking everything, Anyhow I got it back together and went to rev it and it slipped timing.

I checked everything out again and it seems that the pump gear is not on tight..

I don't understand why it does not move on the shaft much. When I torque it the nut seems to take all the pressure and not the gear itself. When i go to take it off it comes off with very little effort.

I do not understand why this is happening. Is there something I am missing?

To me it should slip on the shaft more. Anybody know?

thanks Joe

yes I did.

Here is where I am at right now

It just did not seem right so I took the whole front cover off. I cleaned the shaft and gear and tried it again. Seems better then before.

I did try this with the cover on but still to much oil I guess. Atleast now I now how easily the timing can slip.

What did you clean the shaft with? I've gotten the best results with ether. Brake cleaner would probably work just as well. Make sure it's something that won't really leave any residue.

There's also a miller tool that assist in tightning the gear without threat of it turning, Also , What are you torquing to?

I cleaned it with brake cleaner. It seems like it does not go back any farther once you start torquing it down.

I did read about the miller tool but I don't see how that will help to much...who knows.

Since I have the front cover off I can now see what I am working on and like everyone says it need to be so clean you can eat off of it or it will slip...

I did torque it to 150 ftlb with to washers and still slipped with the cover on.....

I wish I had money to get a adjustable gear that would be great and solve all the problems

Torque it until the motor starts to turn over. Then kinda jab at it a time or two. I have never had one slip after doing that. That is as long as the shaft is clean, spray it with brake cleaner really good.

is it a straight cut gear? if its a helical cut (which i believe it is) i wouldnt think it'd mesh with the rest of the gears
