Going to look @ a 97, 3500, 4x4, 5spd, with 300k on it. It's a 1 owner truck, belongs to an old man, mainly highway miles with some light towing. He wants $9k for it. Seems a little high to me. I was thinking about $7k?

 

i'd say with that mileage that is high, remember that 5th gear is known to fail on those trucks, the ball joints are JUNK, trackbar failures leading to death wobble, not to mention the cracked dash, seats that break down, KDP that can cause MASSIVE damage on the motor....... i'd say 7K is pretty fair as long as the body is pretty straight and the interior is good, don't forget to get the recalls checked out, hood latch, accelerator cable, and headlight switch.....

 

I'm being told all those issues have been addressed and he has receipts to prove it

 

9k is deff. high. is it excab? i would say in good shape inside and out 6k if its standard cab and 6500 if its excab. 300k is a lot even for these motors

 

300k is not alot of miles for a cummins. hey maybe a powerstroke or dmax. Its just getting broke in at 300k. I have seen them go alot more than 300k. Thats why I have one. The 1 million mile engine.

 

It's an extra cab. 300k is nothing, I'm not worried about that, it's the rest of the truck.

 

im tellin you 300k is a lot, you dont know how often the oil was changed in those 300k or how many times he overheated the thing or how much "dirty fuel he put in it' He might have ran it for 50k with out an air fiilter for all you know.. Im just sayin. If he kept a good matenence the entire life of the truck then no 300k is nothing but how would you know? But you are right its the rest of the truck i would be woried about too if the engine runs good. Like wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends, rear ends, tranny. Those would be the main issues on a truck with that many miles. The thing is if you look long enough you can find a 97 like that with less than 150k for the same price or less.

 

Look I hate t say it but right now in this economy I don't care if the thing has 2 miles on it or 2 million but just like my truck and all of our trucks they aren't woth scrap prices and I don't care what anyones says 300k ain't sh*t on a cummins maintained or not if ya drive like gramps the damn engine according to cummins will go 750 before its even ready for an overhaul tell the guy 9k is too much and offer him 5 if he's broke like the rest of the country hell take it but imo id be more worried about makin my house payments insurance payments and so on and let the guy sit on the truck for a month then shoot him an offer

 

(and headlight switch.....)There's a recall on the headlight switch?

 

**** mines is a 2500 extd cab and i paid 3 for it and its got 212k but i practically stole mine

i had to put a few hundred in it though

(radiator, water pump, thermostat)

offer him 6500 if its in immaculate condition othe than that ide say in the 5's
