MY TRIP FROM PHX TO SANFRANCISCO
OK... WE TOOK A TRIP FROM AZ TO YOSEMITE AND THEN TO SANFRANCISCO...(THE YOSEMITE THING SUCKED THERE WAS A FIRE AND PRETTY MUCH ALL THE SITES TO SEE WERE CLOSED OR YOU COULDNT GET TO THEM...... I WAS PULLING A 8000 POUND TRAVEL TRAILOR AND MAN I WAS NOT TO HAPPY I WOULD GET TO THE HILLS AND SEEM LIKE TRUCK WAS STRUGGLING ONLY GOING 30 TO 40 MPH AND RUNNING INTO HIGH EGT TEMPS HAD TO PUSH THE OVERDRIVE BUTTON TO GET THE EGT'S TO DROP ,,,STRAIGHT GROUND DID LIKE 70 AT BEST,,,, WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO DO TO GET THIS TO BE A GREAT PULLING MACHINE I WANT TO PULL THIS TRAILOR THROUGH THE HILLS AT A GOOD SPEED AND NOT HAVE SEMI'S PASS ME UP AND STILL HAVE A DEPENDABLE TRUCK.. SOMEONE HELP
I HAVE #100 PLATE S&B FILTER STARWHEEL FULL FORWARD HAVE A EGT,BOOST TRANNY GAUGES

i would guess loose the 100 plate and stick in somthin with less fuel, or iff you want to keep the fuel ive heard a better turbo will cool things down. Also make sure your lockup is working properly on your tranny. I would imagine some good ole fashion "pump tuning" would be in order for you as well as a little timing bump.
Max fuel tune-ups do not equal cool temps while towing.
Also...
If you have not done anything to the transmission all the fuel in the world will do you zero if you can not put the power to the ground.Ineffiecnt transmissions and big mountains will add to your EGT woes.
I have said it before and will again....
The higly touted, home brewed and cut,end all/be all "100" plate is not the best choice for all models of p-pumps.Why people think that they will gain the same performance out of a 100 in a 160hp pump truck as someone else will in a 100 equipped 215hp pump truck is beyond me.The pumps are very different year to year and there is no one plate that will make the same power in all of the pumps.

I know I have towed some good weight with my ctd and would climb steep grades cruzin at 75 plus with out going over 1100 on the EGT's. Adding fuel doesn't equal power proper tuning equals good power and not excessive EGT's. I would slide the plate back some back off the star wheel a bit. get a good exhaust for flow.
what kind of mods did you have to achieve that toy4xchris at that time?

I think some tuning on the pump will get you somewhere, free flowing exhaust and timing bump will help too if you haven't done them.
Also, a different turbo will help if you get the right one for what your doing. Every variable is important, ie cruising egts and WOT egts are affected independently.
