alternator problems
my alternator isn't charging. iv done alot of stuff to check it and still cant figure it out. at first i thought it was the alternator itself so i bought one from CL that was new and had my old one checked and the old one was still good. i checked the 120 amp fuse and its still good. i checked the ground for the alternator and hooked it straight to the batt and still nothing.
it stopped charging after i had the head apart and put it back on. i did once arc off the back of the old alternator when re-installing the head but thought it would have blown the fuse. the only other thing that i can think of is the computer since it holds the regulator. is there anyone who has put on a different regulator so you didn't have to replace the computer and is there a way to check if it is the regulator that is causing it not to charge?

check the field wires... idk what kinda of voltage would be on the wires, but ones supposed to be a ground the other a hot... the field has to be energized in order for it to charge... no ground, or no power/too little power would mean a no charge situation... you can use and external regulator like the first gens did... it'll just continuously throw a code (or so i've read) i'll poke around... there was a thread about doing this not too long ago

once RSWORDS buzzes by this thread he'll set you up with what you need to hook up the external regulator. it's two wires... ones a constant from the battery i believe and the other is the field wire hook up... which one is which... idk RSWORDS has a nice picture that makes it very clear... seen it b4 cant find it again... sorry, wish i do more to help

This is how you hook a ext reg up to a 1st gen. I guess it might work on a 2nd gen.
