ugh dont tell me that!! im scared its gonna be a bigger problem then valve adjustment or timing... i cant afford a rebuild bc of low compression or something like that

if you had excessive compression loss (enough to make it miss) at idle the crankcase vent would just pour out a fog plus a bad white haze at idle would be present too

Hi I had a miss at idle when I finished pulling the boat last Sat night and it happened before when I pulled the boat. But I was able to find the cylinder by letting it idle and cracking the injector line to see if the idle got worse or not ,if it did that cylinder was good the one that did not make it any worse was the one that was bad. Now I went through all the cylinder diagnosis and found nothing wrong.(compression leak down valve lash poped the injector...) Put it all back together fired it and all was well???? That was the first time (cylinder 4)second time I found that cylinder#2 was bad and just blew back through the fuel lines and took the delivery valve apart and all was fine again. Runs fine. Stock fuel system. Now I have just ordered an air dog 150. I hope this fixes my problem. I run my 5.9 to 4k and the stock system must be breaking down inside?? I hope this helps Cheers

ok well i thought i had it figured out.... it ran good for a little bit but now its doin the same thing! maybe its getting air in the system and i just got it purged when i put the new filter on? im really getting sick of this thing

Could be air in the fuel system...

Many times it will seep air due to age of the truck and motor at the fuel pump/heater/pre filter assembly. If you remove the rubber hand pump cover and its wet underneath thats one place air may be getting into it at.Also check your fuel return line from the p-pump which will run right under the intake. There is a small piece of rubber hose where the hard line from the pump and the hard line to the tank meet at.It notorious for going bad and leaking air and fuel.Could also be the connections on the top of the tank or the factory fuel lines along the frame also.

One other item which is not covered by anyone here is a sticky barrel and plunger. If you have one of them hanginmg up a bit it will also create a miss and the only way I know to have that fixed is to remove the pump and take it to a shop.I had one sticking on my factory 215 pump and it would sound like it was sucking air into the exhaust pipe when it ran.I have since had the pump built by a good shop and when it was apart the questionable barrel and plunger was easily seen then.

It could also be a injector which is bad and you may need to pull them and have them pop tested. If it is injector related testing them will show it when tested.

Best to start simple and work out the ones which you can eliminate then dig a bit deeper.......Andy

i'll collaborate with hammer... the rubber line that goes to the return... its a pain to change but i've been down that road... truck ran fine other than blowing a nice mist of diesel everwhere under the hood. i'd look into a leaky fuel system at this point too... if air can get in fluid can usually get out so look around for wet areas

just had a brain storm. while i was commenting on a blown headgasket i made a comment about how cylinder pressures can be forced into the cooling system. the same can happen with a faulty injector. if the seat is worn compression pressures can be pushed up into the injector... it's not a real likely problem; but it does happen. bench testing the injectors may be the best route. i'm sure it's cheaper to do it that way than get a new set

hm well ive noticed only sometimes when i push on the primer button i get a squirt of fuel from around it towards the bottom...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

well i pumped on that effin button for like 5 min earlier and never found a leak, it ran kinda rough for a few min after that but then it cleared up and ran good w/ no miss for a while. i cant find that rubber hose under the intake... the only line i c is the steel line comin from the overflow valve

it's behind the fuel filter bracket... it's a biotch to get to. if your gettin a squirt of fuel out of the rubber boot itself that isnt normal at all... if you don't run into any other problematic places... i highly recommend replacing it
