iam new at this stuff. but understand most of it. but not sure about the gains of re-timing the motor and fuel pump from 13* which i think is stock to 16* or 19*. not sure how that one works. please explain!!!!!!!!

at 13 degrees the fuel is injected 13* before TDC to anticipate injection and ignition lag. taking this into consideration it may start to burn in the bowl 5* BTDC (just a random number for explanation) this means that in 5 degrees the engine will be on its power stroke and volume in the cylinder will increase... by advancing the timing you actually cause the expanding gasses to push the piston down sooner rather than having them catch up with the piston and then push on the piston. it'll raise cylinder pressures and if you get too crazy with it it'll actually start to burn in the bowl while the piston is still moving upward...which creates a horrible knock... i've heard it compared to a chevy 6.2 diesel... 16-19* is i guess the sweet spot for stock-ish trucks... it starts its burn just afew degrees before TDC and starts pushing much sooner ATDC... hopefully that makes enough sense i understand it... but then again that isn't saying alot
