Default turbo porting.

hi, there is a guy that lives in a town near me that he says he "ports and polishes" turbos and exhaust manifolds.
now my buddy let the guy do his turbo and manifold. he said it made a huge difference.
he said it spools twice as fast and it sounds awesome. im gunna go tommorow and listen to it but from what he says it s definatly worth the money.
the guy wants 250$ to do it.
what do you guys think about it?

depends on how much you take off to "port" the turbo. if you port the exhaust and take too much off you'll actually hurt spool up (common problem on the first gens with too large of a housing) if i'd port anything; i'd port the compressor side, smooth up the intake and wide mouth it and do the same for the outlet of the compressor side... nothing INTERNAL on either exh or compressor side (as stated before this is what will cause more hurt than good)... problem with most "quick perfomance upgrades" is guys do them and stand on the throttle a little harder and notice the increase of perfomance; sometimes it's just all in your head. in my personal opinion save your 250 bucks (although pretty freakin reasonable for port work) it sounds more like a mod guys do trying to squeeze every last drop of hp they can out of their set up. as always tho... it's your truck bud i know you'll do what you want with it b/c it's exactly what i'd end up doing so good luck and let me know how it turns out if you do it... maybe down the road i'll do some "home porting" myself if it's worth it

yeah i know what you mean. my buddy says he bores out the manifold exhaust inlet, air inlet and air outlet. he said it spools quicker at lower rpms increased exhaust flow and lowered his egts. he also said it made it scream. but i know i wanna check his out first.

yeah; take a look at the "ported" surfaces if they're pretty rough save yourself 180 bucks and just go buy a 150 piece dremel kit and do it yourself garuntee that is all he's doing it with

as i had said before; it's more of a thing you do when your trying to squeeze every last bit out of it. although if it does change the sound i'd always be interested in doing it for that purpose; i love it when i have something that doesn't sound like any other vehicle out there
