hi i got a dodge cummins 12valve 1994 and it will not start the only thang it is doing it win i turn the key the fuel shut off clicks

is it the fuel shutoff making that noise. mine only clicked also till i put new started rebuild in then it dont do it anymore

Check make sure your battery cables are hella tight man

Have you checked the fuel shutoff solenoid relay on the fiewall?...

They are known to fail and will keep the solenoid from operating and will cause the solenoid to click.

Also...

IF all your getting is just a click and the truck is not turning over at all then you may have a starter issue.Even if the fuel shutoff solenoid is just clicking the turck should turn over,it just won't start.Batteries or starter would be my first place to look and then I would look further.

get a multi meter and run a qukck voltage drop test, one lead at the battery and one on the motor side of the starter solenoid, kick the solenoid and see what the multi meter shows. then check the drop on the opposite post of the solenoid if it's over 1 volt difference it's too much drop, but should still work... anything over a volt check the connections and look into repairing them. even if a battery is at full state of charge 12.6v it is possible that when ya hit the key it'll drop wayyy below normal. considering 12.2 er 12.3 is considered a state of discharge. batteries can be odd... but for both batteries to do the same thing at the exact same time would be unlikely. isolate them and load test them. just about any autoparts store will load test for free, and even test the starter for you...if you don't have a multimeter, yank parts and have them test them for you only if your certain it's batteries or starter. as stated before make sure connections are tight; it'd suck to pay money for new parts when the old ones were still ok.

Default cummins starter issues - easy fixes

LarryB's Dodge starting problems solved here.

this site helps a ton, has great parts, and allows you to rebuild starter easily with better than factory parts.

i have had starter run on, the fuel shut off burn up, easily fixed with this guy!
