Default frankenstien my 12v

Today I picked up a 24v motor with a cracked block for 5 gals of gas what a deal I thought I pulled the head off and the pistons out and they are good still all the push rods are straight. What I'm thinkin is running the 24v head pistons and pushrods on my 12v block scheid sells the injector lines and I really like the injector options on the 24v head but don't want to give up the p pump the cam is the same from what I've been told. Does anyone think this would be a bad deal to do or would I gain enough for it to be worth it

it can be done. in my opinion the best cummins is a p-pumped 24v, as far as the cam you will want to use the 12v cam because of the fuel pump lobe

I guess its what I'm gonna do it just seems the best way to go short of buying a common rail engine and for the 30 bucks I got it for I couldn't. Pass on it

Should I use the tappet cover off the 24v also or are they different. And yes it was 30 bucks 5 gallons of gas for the guys forklift and 15 in fuel to go get it in my truck couldn't pass it up even the rods are good just the block was cracked where the freeze plugs were don't know why it cracked tho

They are different. The 12v has a valve cover for each cylinder where the 24v uses just one for the whole engine. Makes it a pain to get the dumb thing on and off!

I guess we have differences in terminology. What exactly do you mean by "tappet cover"?

tappet cover covers the tappets ( also called lifters) and the base of the pushrods its on the side of the block, the valve cover which you were talkin covers the rocker arms and is on top of the engine.
