Default 12v oil amount

Do the 12vs hold the same amount of oil as the 24v?

I always dump a full 3 gallons into my 12V....if youre a little over, its not going to hurt it.

Yea I noticed that when changing mine (91) and dad's old one (2001) that we just kept adding to mine when his was done a long time ago. His takes about one too two quarts shy of three gallons...mine took all three gallons.

I did a quick scan on our application guide and it looks like starting in 2004, the capacity goes from 10 to 12 qt(that's without the filter)
Hope they are correct

Over-filling will hurt performance. As the crank spins, it's rotational mass picks up the excess oil around it and "slows" it down, not much, but some.

This is true in all engines.

Cummins diesels take 11 quarts, from 89-2002 in dodge applications. Save the extra quart, and every 3rd oil change you only have to buy 2 gallons.

if it's hurting my performance...I haven't noticed. I kept filling until the dipstick read full.
