98 california 12 valve help

ok so my friend has a 98 12vlave from cali with the egr system. we deleted the egr system and now the check engine lite is on. is there anyway i can fool a censor or something to solve the issue

Did you plug up the vacuum line after removing the pipe? I have a 97 from california and i removed the EGR pipe capped everything off and plugged the vacuum line. I have not had a light come on.
