no its different - I cant remember all the details but I recalling somthing about the shift towers being different lengths.

That being said, you should be able to make it work if you swap in those extra parts.

Im sure someone that knows exactly what you need will chime in.

top plate is different. older ones are one piece, newer ones the shift tower bolts onto the top plate. The short throw is a different stub and a spacer that goes between the shift tower and top plate.

They are Different cases i dont think you can change just the top plate to make it work. I wanted to do a short shift on mine but couldnt get any info on doing it, and from pics of the pre 97 5spds and post the tops look alot different.

I'm not sure but I think I've seen writeups on people switching them.
OP, if you want to know about the interchange for sure call up Dan at Quad 4x4. He's THE guy for 4500 Q's/parts.

Default short shifter

This can be done but you have to find a 98 and up four bolt shifter top cover for your nv4500. I am doing mine right now and it is not to hard. Just line up the shifter forks and run through the gears when done before install to see that the forks are installed properly. The tranny has to be out for this procedure. Cheers
