i went with 5 straight after i rebuilt the engine, ive noticed about an average of 50 degree drop in my egts, ovcourse that could be the bigger pistons. it sounds exactly the same as my 4" i am currently running a 4" downpipe into 5" pipe to my 5" stacks

a 5 inch exhaust is not needed until you are in the 550-600rwhp range. Under that you are loseing power with the 5 inch system

I'm gonna say its the pistons. I used to run a 4" into dual 5" stacks ... swiched to 4" into one 7" which acts just like an exhaust tip and gained power

I know a couple of people with cummins and powerstrokes who have been over the 600hp and they've actually switched back to a 4 inch after having a 5 inch. They all say that they had no power with the 5 inch.
