KDP = Killer Dowel Pin

Its an alignment pin they use to line up the gear case to the front of the motor when they are putting it together. Thats all it does, but its not secured in the block at all. Over time the pin can and will work its way out of its hole and when it does it can do one of two things. Fall straight down no harm no foul or get caught between the various gears in the front case and break those along with the case itself. Thats happens 99.9% of the time. Then you get to tear the whole front of the motor and including the cam out to fix it. Very costly! The KDP tab bocks the pin from coming out, still have to do some work to install it, but much easier fix.

The kit is worth the money (at least that's the way I went), got mine from TST.

Tab
Bolt
RTV, but I also put in a 12V gasket because I don't believe in RTV being the end all be all.
Front crank seal and guide.

Pic of typical carnage. A = Where the pin should be. B = Where it tried to escape. Bad stuff

And here's the short version of what you have to do when you break the case....
