just wondering what it would take time ,material, money wise what it would take to rebuild a 12 valve.. i found one online for a good price the only downfall is it has 270K on the odometer. im looking to do a swap in my 97 f-250 and would like to put something a little more fresh in it.. thanks for any advice

270,000 miles aint !a cummins is just broke in at those miles.if that motor was well taken care of and if you take care of it that motor could last another 300,000 miles.i have a friend who has one with over 500,000 and all he's done is put an alternator on it!he said he thought about putting main bearings in it to bring the oil pressure up to where it was!

I had 330k on mine and rebuilt it, it didn't need it. but given the situation I decided to go ahead and do it.. It still had the factory cross hatching marks visible in all 6 cylinder walls. I was shocked. If it were me i'd put main bearings in it, and leave the top end alone. But that's just my 2 pennys... Anyways to address your question. I got a dealer price on a complete kit pistons rings gaskets bearings had the head surfaced ond magna fluxed. and all total I think it cost just over 2k like 2200 or something like that. Hope this helps and good luck with the swap!
