Default 2003 V10 47re in a 1998 12-valve?

Can anyone tell me if a 47re from a 2003 V10 gasser will work in my '98 12-valve? Are there any differences as far as bolting it up, hydraulics, or electronics?

Thanks,
John

Electronics are different. Different springs in the valve body. Different shift points and different converters. All things are easily changed.

Since it is a stock transmission I would install a new TC and valve body anyway. All the electronics are in the valve body, right?

Cool. I can get this brand new, never installed, 2003 V10 47re for $1100. That is cheaper than having mine rebuilt. Either way I need a valve body and TC. So I'm thinking it sounds like a good deal. And I would still have my original tranny to rebuild and sell or share with a friend. And maybe I could even get a few bucks for the brand new V10 TC. There's gotta be a few V10 guys out there smokin' their TC's

See if you can buy it without the T/C and VB for even less... If you're buying it from a shop they'll often drop the price if you don't need a converter.

Even better. This guy has several 'new old stock' transmissions. While I have been figuring out whether I could make his 2003 47re work in my '98 it turns out he had a 2nd gen diesel 4x4 47re all along. I bought it for $1300 shipped to my door. I think I will Transgo the valve body, buy a triple clutch TC, and make the mods to the trans that Dave Goerend suggests on his website. Then I can install my #100 plate, get some injectors, GSK, etc.

Word of advise, skip the TransGo... I put one in my truck, and it wasn't worth it. Now I'm not saying it wasn't installer error, but it burned up my 1-2 Band and I lost reverse...

Just go with a Goerend Converter, Single Disk is all you need, just make sure its a Billet cover. Ask him for a VB as well, with the money you'll save with a single disk, you'll have enough for the VB. IIRC, the Triple Disk is $1200-$1300, the Single is $600, the VB is $400. These are prices from about 2 years ago when I had a Automatic equipped truck.

Thanks for the tips. I just got off the phone with Gus Farmer (Farmboy Diesel) and he suggested the same thing. He runs a single clutch TC on his 800 hp race truck. I was also wondering if a performance valve body was just a vb with a shift kit but it sounds like there's more to it. I don't want to cut corners but I do want to save a few bucks whenever possible.
