Angry Fuel Gauge Not Working

My 96 dodge 12v factory in dash fuel gauge isnt workin .. I have to drive by my odomoter, and im getting tired of having to trip the mileage .. Any suggestions on what could be wrong. It has never worked sense I have had the truck.. Help

its stuck inside the tank................bang on the tank real good withyer fist then prolly drop the tank and overhaul it

Is it hard to overhaul it. .And how much would it cost?

get the tank level down as low as ya can then drop it and see whats goin on in there...............its just a float thingy and prolly hung up

i have the same problem with mine but only when i get below a 1/4 tank otherwise it works

Its more than likely ur fuel level sending unit. Pull ur canister and check the sensor with an ohm reader. hook up the ohm reader and move the flot up and down and see if the meter changes. If it doesnt change than u need the sending unit. There not that much money if thats what it is.

little bit more tricky than that, got to either pull the bed or tank first which to tell ya the truck aint quite a day at the beach, if you know what i mean. i just said screw the damn stock sending unit. i went to shucks and paid 15.00 for a universal sender with the same ohm range cut a hatch in my bed and mounted it towrds the front of the tank. it works and is easy accese for cleaning the tank screen
