Starter Hits my New SBC DD Clutch Flywheel
im in the process of building my truck. iv got a 92 GMC 1 ton dually, with a 12v that i think originally used to be auto untill some one swapped a five speed on it. and then i bought a nv5600 the other month that had a 1 3/8 shaft so i had to save up for a clutch. i just got the clutch today, a south bend dd 3600 lb something. so i bolted her on and now my starter hits the flywheel . i ground a lil off the starter because it didnt matter but i measured some stuff and if i did bolt it on the starter gear would be engaged by about a 1/4 inch all the time . i was going to make a spacer plate to bolt between the starter and flywheel housing but i figured some one on here might be able to help me? maybe this automatic tranny starter WORKED with the 5 speed and now i need a real 5 speed starter???? or maybe i need a auto starter to fit this clutch?????

First...
Which tranny do you have a 5spd(NV4500) or a 6spd(NV5600) in it?...
Sounds like you need the spacer for the starter to fit the bigger flywheel of the SBC DD.All the 5spd doubles use a 6 spd flywheel and you need the spacer to make the starter fit correctly. The spacer can be ordered at any Dodge dealer....Andy
