School is almost out for the semester which means I get to work full-time again which means I'll have money to burn on upgrades, but first things first to keep from having to spend money on some costly repairs.

The truck is a 1995 Ram 2500 4x4 auto and I've had it about 3 months now and I'm almost positive the engine is stock but I'm not sure of the trans. The truck has a little over 260k on it and the trans is great. Maybe too great considering the aftermarket towing accessories on it. My question is this, on the chance I got it soon after a standard rebuild and not with a stronger aftermarket trans are there any castings, stampings, plates, etc. on the housing or otherwise that would discern the trans from an OE one?

Another thing is the truck came with a Cummins RamBrake on it but I don't think it's working. I've tried to get in touch with both Cummins and Jacobs trying to get the installation and troubleshooting manuals but they haven't responded. The brake's Cummins P/N is 3933128 and the Jacobs P/N is 022453. If a better description or pic is needed to figure out which one it is I'll be glad to give it.

Im pretty sure most of the aftermarket trans builder use OE housings in our trucks. So about the only way to tell would be in a tear down I think.

As far as the exhaust brake, Im not sure. But we have some members here that run them. Im sure they will lend you a hand in trying to figure it all out.

 

When i baught my 98 I was told i had a goerend trans. I called dave and he said you would have to tear into it to see. It wasnt.... However if its not been in that long a company may have the records but im afraid your going to have to tear it apart and at least look at the VB to see.

what do you need to know about the brake im running a pacbrake

 

i need to know how to troubleshoot its functionality.

as a side note, i was looking at it closer earlier and the vacuum line from the brake goes into a small valve of some sort with a relay attached. That valve is fed by a vacuum line with T's going to the power steering, 4wd activator maybe, a line running into the cab, and i think another one or two running to various places. i ran out of daylight before i could track down where the wires from the relay were going.

the components i know of so far are the brake, the relay w/vacuum, a switch at the driver side top of the timing cover that the throttle linkage bumps into, and a small on/off toggle in the cab. I thought there would be more to it.

that's why i'm hunting these manuals...

 

have you asked the previous owner if he knows whats in the tranny or if he happens to have the manuals someplace, sounds stupid, but i had to do that on my clutch in mine
