you dont have to have the springs but if you are exceeding 3200rpm it would be a wise choise

make sure you know exactly what TDC is before you pull the keepers if any of this information your getting is based on the pacbrake instalation directions what they say is TDC is actually when the piston is at the base of the cylander. i poped my keepers off when this happend and almost lost the valve

you could with a flash light what i did was put the pistons at what was called TDC from pacbrake, compressed the spring and pulled the keepers then found out the valve would have droped. i put a socket on the harmonic balencer and bared the engine over reverse almost a full 180* meaning it was at the bottom. i kept baring till i could feal the valve hit the piston but its risky doing it that way. cummins told me i cold take a piece of rope and put it in the injector hole and felt as it hit the valve holding it up in place. the nice thing is that the #1,#6 and at the same place at all time as is #2,#5 and #3,#4 thats also time consuming another way is pull the head but nobody wants to do that

if you do the rope trick make sure you pull your rockers first

here is what i used from pacbrake this is how they call for TDC but it wasnt right "http://pacbrake.com/PDF/L5930.PDF"
