I may be able to get ahold of a '96 2500 ext cab 5 speed 2wd that's been salvaged. 220k miles.

the insurance valued it at $6k, with body damage costing more than that so it's getting totaled. the guy's driving it still. got run off the road, hit a couple fence posts. messed up the bumper and popped the turn signal out(sheetmetal behind the headlight is fine). got a little of the underside of the cab and wrecked the bed.

anyone know about how much something like this could be bought back for from the insurance co.? I'm considering scrounging some money together in the next few weeks to see if I can pick the truck up. Oh yeah, I have a 2nd gen bed for it. the NV4500 needs some work, synchros are gone and a couple gears whine.

how much do you think a reasonable price would be? I'd like to pay less than reasonable.

 

there should be a certain percentage of the assumed value that they would take for the buy back. it varies from state to state and from company to company on their regulations on that. from what i've gathered it isn't a negotiating match between the insurance company and an individual. it either sells for what they want or they send it to a salvage yard or auction.

I had full coverage on it they were going to have me buy its back for thought it was 1600 and change but once they figured out where i lived and how much it would cost for them to get it outa here they asked me to keep it.
