Default Trans Shifts Real Hard...

ok im looking at a 1995 dodge dually wit a good ol 12v, the guy only want $2800 for it. he says the truck is in good shape but the trans runs each gear out to red line and shifts real hard and when it gets into over drive it jumps in and out. he says the trans doesnt get hot.

the truck also has a new turbo and heavy duty TC.

what are your thoughts on why the trans is doing this? if its a simple fix i might get the truck.

check the fluid while the tranny is hot, on level ground IN NEUTRAL..... mine did the same thing. i had dodge tell me i needed new solenoids in it. did that and serviced it and still did the same thing. took it to my friend that is a tranny builder and he said it was about 1 1/2 to 2 quarts low. when it is checked in park not enough fluid is flowing to get the fluid level to opperating level. in neutral it is in full flow-ish.....

see if you can get it any cheaper.... then check the fluid..... if that ain't it it'll be the lockup solenoid....

My brothers truck did that! Turns out since the trans is electronically controlled it was just a bad ground. Wouldn't stay in overdrive, jumped out in all gears. You could even lock it out of overdrive and it would jump gears. We cleaned up the terminals, and replaced a bad ground and it has been good ever since (couple months now trouble free)!

Zach, just so you know, when I was pricing the 12v's, a complete one is $2000 alone.. without the rest of the truck.. I cant see how you can go wrong for that money.. honestly, if you dont want it, lemme know where it is, cause I need another 12v block already..
