Default No 4WD

OK so the wife has recently informed me that the 4 WD in the Dodge has gone out. I kind of saw it coming, when I left for Iraq almost a year ago, I only had 4 Low. So now I have none. My question: Can it be anything other than the transfer case itself? (It's not the linkage, she checked) If it is the transfer case, how hard a job is that to do on this truck? I'm thinking not to bad....

Sounds like it needs remand. Going to have to have a 4x4 shop do it, and it's going to be around $700-$1000. 2 drivelines, a few bolts, a linkage, and a couple electrical connections. Should only take about an hour, not real hard at all.

The simple things are the two vacuum lines on the front of the transfer case and the adjustment of the shift lever itself. After that is the front axle disconnect that is a common problem best solved by installing a manual disconnect available on the aftermarket. If that doesn't fix it then look at the transfer case. Might be something as simple as low fluid levels in the front axle or transfer case.

yeah check the vacuum lines going from the Transfer case going to the front axle and the thing(i cant think of the real name) they hook into sittin on top of the axle on the passenger side of the axle.

it could be your transfer case. if you have an auto locking axle there is a small sleve that slides inside in every now and then mine will get jared in there and i dont 4 wheel drive

My problem was the Vacume lines some snow/ice chunks got knocked up under there and hit them off. Theres nothing really holding them on there to well. I had some ice actually inside the vacume line after and we had to bring a hair dryer and suck the lines out before i could use the 4x4 again.
