The truck will sit for 8hrs without me starting it when I'm at work, when I fire it up to leave it puffs a tiny bit of black smoke nothing crazy like

 

Black smoke is pretty normal wouldn't worry, its the blue that is usually signs of some cylinder/piston wear, leaking valve seals.
White smoke (not condensation)= leaking injectors raw fuel sitting in the piston dish and washes down cylinders usually strong raw fuel smell in the exhaust or worse a head gasket seap.

 

I live in Connecticut when it fires in the morning usually the temp is 38° this time of year my Cummins puffs one or two light puffs of blue smoke but in two or three mins when I come out to drive it to work its not smoking or anything
