Default price for tranny

OK so there's a guy with a nv4500 for sale. He. Claims it's been went threw but has no paper work on it and it's been sitting for 12 years how much would you pay for it?

You're gonna have to crack at least the tail housing and input shaft retainer to check a few things. Just the transmission and nothing else....400 bucks. If you can spin it in each gear by hand and not wiggle the input 1/8" in each direction. But man that's a guess.

as long as its hasn't been out in the weather with the shifter tower off, and you can spin it in all gears (as stated above) to make sure its not locked up you should be fine. the only true way to know before installing it is to open her up.

I would go along and pull the shift tower off ... just to be safe

OK guys thanks for the tips. I'm gunna go take a look at it sunday...I'm pretty new at all this stuff...how can I tell if this is the right nv4500? I sent there ones for different makes of trucks?

as long as it came from a cummins truck it'll bolt up to the engine. after that it's just about 4x2 or 4x4.

chevy used it in their trucks and while the bellhousings are interchangeable, a cummins truck will demolish a chevy NV4500.

OK well thanks guys. I'm basically buying this as a core. I plan on spending some dough to get it beefed up. So with that being said...is there any kits I can buy to overhaul this thing and for how much?

Well I bought the tranny. 4th gear is missing a tooth. But I bought it as a core anyway. Soo my next question. Where do I buy a bad *** rebuild kit for it? I wanna do this thing the right way...so yea I know it's gunna cost some dough? Any ideas guys? Thanks

I paid about 500 bucks for a full rebuild kit from fleabay with no chinese bearings and a US made mainshaft.

the chevy nv4500 has smaller bearings .. ( unless its a diesel model from my understanding .) .
