Oil leak between turbo and manifold?
It would have to fill the CAC with enough oil to support the Over Speeding .... Real uncommon in this engine type ... if it were like the 8V's that I work on te turbo sits on top of the blower and therfore when the turbo goes the engine has a good steady supply of oil to run off of ...... thesein line engines, I have only known of 1 that I have seen the aftermath of what happened .. and it filled the CAC with enough oil to run the engine , and even with the fuel turned off @ solenoid, it was still going... till they took an extingusher to it .... then it was a total loss.... had to be rebuilt... didnt kill anything major ... ( 8.3 Cummins C series ) ...
That oil feed line is enough to make it go, have seen a few of them go when the seal went out and the turbo sucked the oil right out of it. But you are right the ol' Detroit were known for running away, and running backwards.
