it also depends on the dyno operator. i got shorted almost 200hp last pull. if you want the truck to be faster put in a set of 4k governor springs. then your son will be behind you.

Modding the gate will allow you to control boost better when more power is made. You are correct on limiting the hx35 to 35psi it is still within its map and its bearings will thank you for it in the long run.

For comparison my brother has a 98 12v 5 speed 215 pump. Mods are 4k springs, intake, exhaust, fuel plate, afc mods, modded wastegate, and a set of head studs. It dynoed a clean 285RWHP ( dont have sheet in front of me now for the exact number) with 32psi of boost. With more timing and a more aggressive afc it would do 325ish at the same boost.

So basically i need 4000 GSK and need to mod my wastegate and i will be close to 300 since i dont have the 215 pump!I think the 98 Auto was 180 pump,if my memory serves me right?

Hp is the rate in which TQ is made. if your trucks stops revving out @ 2-2200rpms its pretty hard to make any big HP gains. your sons D-max revs nearly twice as high stock. you will be driving a totally different creature when you are making some power into the low 3k rpms.

It would help because you can pull up to 4,000 rpm's ... not that i would recommend doing it with out 60# valve springs and Studs and a coolant bypass ... so ya dont lift the head ...

Not sure pulling up to 4K will be of any benefit with the stock charger, but I think we've already sort of been around that block from another angle.
That said, IMO 4K springs fuel harder across the board than 3K springs, whether you spin it to redline or just putt around at idle so, still worth doing.
