Clutch!

Im going to install a new clutch soon because mine is slipping like none other. Anyway my question is about the flywheel. Ive always replaced the flywheel when I install a new clutch and I plan on it when I replace this one. But if I go with a south bend clutch should I use a south bend flywheel or can I just go down to the parts house and get a stock replacement flywheel? Im just kind of hesitant to buy a flywheel for $350 from south bend if i can get one thats just as good for 100 bucks from the parts house

Every clutch I bought from southbend comes with a flywheel

well im looking at a 400 horse 800 ft lb clutch. the clutch that comes with the flywheel is $727 from alligator and the kit with no flywheel is $485 from alligator. so all im wondering is whether or not the actual south bend flywheel is worth all that extra money

I've had 3 southbend clutches. 2 dual disc and 1 single disc. I love them and I put them through hell and back. Never had any problem with them at all. Had a 2010 1/2 crew cab dually cummins with 479 rwhp and pulled 22,000 lbs of hay bails a bunch during summer months and 20,000 lbs of tobacco during the fall and winter months. Not one time did it give any problems. Both dual disc were rated 650hp. The single was rated around 450 or 500 and it was in a 94 12 valve. I dumped the clutch a lot and had no problems with it. All I'm saying is you get what you pay for and southbend clutch will be the only one I ever have in my trucks.

I'm saying I would go with the south bend fly wheel

yea i plan on getting the south bend. so what im understanding from you guys is that i should spend the extra $250 for their flywheel? I mean i will if its really worth it but has anybody looked at the southbend flywheel in comparison to the stock flywheel?

Yes get the southbend comes with upgraded pilot bearing and accepts a 13 in clutch stock flywheel does neither

yea i was reading on summit racing and the southbend clutches wont work with an oem style flywheel

Ok I know that this question is blown way out of proportion because of the fact that theres really no way to tell without slapping the truck on a dyno but how much hp and torque do you guys think my truck is pushing? I just want to make sure i get the clutch i need instead of the clutch i think i should get. Cummins Diesel Torque Cam Fuel Plate Dodge 5.9L 12 Valve P7100 Injection Pump
According to pure diesel power a #10 fuel plate alone will give you 330 hp and 750 ft-lbs which i dont believe but it just got me wondering. anyway im looking at either a south bend or valair and want to make sure i get the clutch rated for about how much power i have.

ClintD. 01-20-2014 08:02 PM

That's not in addition to stock hp. Your truck will have 330 hp total after you install the plate. I would get a southbend dual disc street clutch rated for 650hp. That's what I have. It gives you room to grow. And the drive way better than singles and are not as loud. Actually I don't hear mine a at all.
