47re Hp and Tq
Wondering how much hp and tq a stock 47re can handle before you need to do modifications? My truck has a rough estimate 300 rwhp,Don't have a lead foot(only every once in awhile), keep up on the on all the fluid changes and get the tranny flushed every 50k miles, also have an tranny cooler! But i've heard they don't like going over stock?!

Any suggestions on what i could put into it to make it withstand somewhere around 400 hp?Also tow a 15k pound 5th to Colorado from Az,twice a year.
I think the guy i bought it from did some work to the tranny, like a tc or something cause i've had several diesel mechanics drive it after i bought and they said it doesn't feel like a stock 47re,but it would suck to drop it out and there be something done to it,but do you think better safe than sorry?

That depends largely upon what exactly is in your wallet. IMO, no, your wallet will not like it. It is, however, the cheapest way that's worth going. Doing either one without the other is pointless, a complete waste of money. There's really nothing else that you can do instead that will be worth doing without doing those two. TC and VB are the bare minimum.
And not to rub salt in the wound, but do not skimp on the TC. You can get a billet single disc TC for $200, or you can get one for $900. They aren't aren't aren't the same. I'm not telling you to dump a grand on a convertor by any means, but I am saying look for one with a good reputation behind it. If you shop well and do the work yourself, you should be able to fortify your trans at a stage one level for around $500. And if you don't work the truck hard, it should hold up to 400hp alright. Just keep in mind that 400hp, while a not particularly mind blowing, usually also means around 650-700lb/ft of torque. It takes some real work to make one of these trannies hold up to that kind of torque in anger for any amount of time, so remember that a little common sense goes a long way when you're tapping into it.

Ok .. a single billet will take you to 400 ... if you ever plan on going past that go tripple disc and get it over with ( lower stall and sooner on the power great for towing ) , BUT due to the nature of the tripple disc you will need a good sized cooler and a guage set for trans temp or you will bake it quick ...( they stall lower due to 1 of the three disc's is alwways enguaged and so when u hit lock up .. its like BANG locked ) there fore you need a Great cooler .... a Good HD valve body will do it justice .. I have best friend he spen 4K on a tripple , install and the HD VB and install .... I only wish mine would shift like that .. and he has Dyno proven over 800 TQ ... and never given him an issue ... 97Cummins ... he got a bit of a lead foot lilke me .... (IM worse ...)

The triples are a little more violent in general, but I like it. I haven't had any issues with the stock cooler to date, but I do have a cooler pan. Not sure how much difference it makes, but the other day I pulled a 12K load all morning and the needle on my trans gauge never moved, which means it never got up to 100°. Granted, it was 35° out, but still. My old stock tranny wouldn't have stayed that cool in traffic pulling that load.
There are singles out there that will hold a surprising amount of power, I'd say 80% of the trucks I've seen with triples in them didn't need them. Power-wise I don't technically need one, but application-wise... towing heavy with a single all the time is
