Cummins vs ford 460

Hay guy I have a 97 Cummins single cabelong bed and on Friday im going to have a tug of war with a 96 ford f350 with 460 gas engine do u guys think I will pull him

Slim Whitey 11-19-2013 01:45 PM

depends entirely on the drivers.

12valvebeast97 11-19-2013 01:56 PM

Yeah I think I will pull him than

ClintD. 11-19-2013 02:03 PM

Don't brake traction.

12valvebeast97 11-19-2013 02:22 PM

Yeah thats the only thing as soon as the turbo kicks in it going to spin

4x4manonbroke 11-19-2013 02:37 PM

do tow test ..... up hill ..... that will test usable power ...... the 460 is an animal when built correctly , but there is absolutely no competition with a 6BT or any other diesel worth mentioning ..... actually a 4bt will out tow a.stock 460 ... seen it done .... in a toyota dulley one ton .... .... was frekin hysterical ...:rocking:

turbo2332 11-19-2013 04:56 PM

the 460 is gonna destroy you. his wheel speed will be so much faster than you. he probably has 100 hp on you and nearly the same tq as you. hold on. i loved my old big block. bulled powerstrokes all over. it was on 44's and and had about a gazzillion $ invested but it was still fun destroying the grease smashers.

think about it. sled pullers dont go full pull by not spinning the tires do they? they spin all the way down the track. pray the other guy puts his in 4 low. keep yours in 4 high and let her spin. like 60 mph wheel speed. hes gonna win though. :c: i love drunk hill billies. it takes me back.

this all assuming it is in the dirt and not the pavement. and your truck is stock and only revs to 2200 rpms.

LOL did you know that it take only 3 grown men to hold back a 4x4 geo tracker in the yard. i was hoping for 4.

12valvebeast97 11-19-2013 06:54 PM

I think I will beat him ill do it than put it on YouTube

ClintD. 11-19-2013 06:57 PM

Pulling a sled and tugging trucks are two different things. The sled isn't pulling the opposite direction. If you break traction first it will be easier for the other person to pull you the other way. Why do you think it's against the rules to put ur brakes on at tug-o-wars?

turbo2332 11-19-2013 07:35 PM

its the exact same thing just less weight (AKA 4-high). an opposing force trying to slow you down. the faster you are going the harder it is to slow you down. so if you get going your direction harder and faster than the other guy does who weighs the same amount as you and similiar power and traction than your gonna pull him. however he is going to most likely do this to you hes got more ponies. but ide love to see your battle. i used to love breakin stuff like this than i ran out of money. LOL

and the difference clint would be with the surfaces you are pulling on. if you are on asphalt than absolutely you want no wheel spin. this will result in a loss of traction and very very bad wheel hop, drive line parts scattered about and such, however on dirt you wanna have the truck sit down and dig. you want the tires to displace dirt and drag you forward. there is nothing to displace on asphalt.

my old big block ford is on my profile under toys.

4x4manonbroke 11-19-2013 08:36 PM

I think you should have a tow test, 1/8 mile and a mpg ..... see who beats who ... lol:tu:..

wont be the 460 by a mile .... and if so ...have him come to Wa. I will show him ... LOL:w2:

Don't know how to break it to you but torque is what gets you moving not hp. that lump of crap 460 don't don't have near the torque as the cummins and it don't stand a chance, had a guy just like u at work with his lifted 4x4 f350 and 460 and he was always mouthing off about what a pile the dodge cummins were and how great the fords were...Well after i drug his sorry ass around the plant he never said another word.

novapat 12-06-2013 12:41 AM

what ever truck is heavier will win.. end of story!!!:c:

not even close ... you can weigh down a toyota and my dodge will yard his ass all over the road .... and doing a brake stand is a pussey way of attempting to do a competition anyways.... IMO of course :choochoo:

novapat 12-09-2013 09:53 AM

you couldn't put enough weight in a Toyota to be ass heavy as you dodge!! so meaning of course you would pull him!!it all comes down to physics guys come on its not hard to understand!! its kinda like a fat kid in school trying to play tug of war against the nery 60lb.. think about it!!! Oh think about this... why do most tractors have water in the tires?? weight!!!! more weight=traction!!

4x4manonbroke 12-09-2013 02:51 PM

they also have gearing for max torque multiplication as well .... good point .. and i'm aware that with weight comes "Some traction" ... but there is a fine line with that as well :choochoo:

geddy's uncle 12-10-2013 08:50 AM

Well, considering this thread began several Fridays ago, how'd it turn out?

4x4manonbroke 12-10-2013 03:04 PM

GREAT!!!!!

Its a delicate line ... power & weight vs traction availability ..... :rocking:

4x4manonbroke 12-11-2013 03:02 PM

LMAO !!!!!!!! :spit:

jsrock 12-12-2013 12:18 AM

the 460 is a beast when built right

ClintD. 12-12-2013 08:47 AM

12 valves are beast slayers when built right. Just kidding, I have no knowledge at all when it comes to 460's.

4x4manonbroke 12-12-2013 09:01 PM

too heavy and no where near the torque of any thing diesel ....

In the gas world ... yes a well built 460 will get ya goin real good :tu:

novapat 12-16-2013 12:23 PM

Iv don't a lot of 460s even tho im not a ford guy.. they will make some power and tq. but at high rpms. I did a couple 460s a couple years ago that ran in the low 9 sec area at 150 mph in the 1/4.. hell my little chevy 406 runs that!! google novapat and novapatpinks all out check out the vids!!

angelic0- 12-17-2013 12:13 AM

I will pull that Ford for you..

94 12valve 12-17-2013 11:21 AM

depends on tire size, trans, weight, and height of the hook point ... try and hook your side higher than the guy your pulling.

Also sled pulling and tug of war are two very very different things.

angelic0- 12-20-2013 11:19 PM

I've never pulled against another dually.... so needless to say... i always win !

4x4manonbroke 12-21-2013 05:38 PM

LOL... never tried so never won ...

94 12valve 12-22-2013 07:35 AM

For some reason not a lot of people want to hook to a truck with dual rear wheels and a hood stack :humm:

turbo2332 12-22-2013 08:37 AM

ppssshh i'll do it in the Geo we aint skeeerd. i warn you your feelings may be hurt a bit when i wined the little pink tracker out and let her eat. (no muffler might i add). it is a force to be reckoned with.

JBearSVT 12-22-2013 07:40 PM

OMG I think I just pee'd myself a little :D

you will prob get me actually currently its running N/A since the turbo failure

turbo2332 12-22-2013 08:39 PM

excuses are like A$$HOLES everybody's gott'em if your scared thats fine i have a list in the geo i will just mark you off the to humiliate list. LOL :c:

how in the world did this thread turn into this. who won already.

we hooked my brothers beat up 1990 ranger to a 10x15 mini barn and tore it down, turned out to be a worthy opponent but could not prevail over the might of the 4.0L with a cracked block.

my excuse is i have 2 cylinders below 90psi and 2 in the 120 range. however when i put my helmet on and click the seat belt all worry's subside. i mean come on i pulled a big rock through the yard with it how heavy can a little black dodge be?

94 12valve 12-23-2013 06:34 AM

this thread turned to this due to lack of results ... and it weighs 6k with me in it and the weights off. may be even less with no turbo or intercoolers tho

gunman41mag 12-23-2013 07:28 AM

The truck with the most traction will win the pull:humm:

4x4manonbroke 12-23-2013 02:36 PM

or he who has the biggest tires .... lol:tu:

94 12valve 12-23-2013 08:31 PM

still need the weight and a motor that can turn them :w2:

4x4manonbroke 12-23-2013 09:47 PM

lol.... maybe i have big ass breaks ....:tu:.....:argh::argh::argh:..LOL
