That would definitely be a convenient time to do those pumps, yes. The GSK will only cost you as much mpg as your self control allows. Actually, bumping the timing without the GSK could cost you some. Probably won't, but it did for me. I bumped the timing and lost 2mpg off my highest averages. My towing mileage went up, but that's how it works- the advanced timing is meant to help at higher rpm, when the engine is working harder. Once I put the GSK in, I not only got my mileage back, but I picked up another 2mpg over my old averages. These pump mods sometimes work better together than separately. Ultimately though, once you start waking that pump up and feeling the difference, feeling the difference gets addicting. It will be capable of better mileage with these pump mods, whether or not you're capable of better mileage is a whole other story.
Hahaha I hear ya! I'm going to do things a little at a time as money and time permit.
Thank you for the help!

I didnt do studs on my truck and now have a leaky HG to prove its needed before you play too much .... u dont want to be in my boat ..... its a chance you should not want to take and being left road side is a really FK'd situation ...... just do it a an insurance policy ...... one you only have to pay for once ... there 439 on ebay for the arp 12mm ... more than enough for your peformance level ...... fyi my truck also has a 215HP in it ..... most 180's are some what more safe ... but do your self the favor and heedmy warning ..... it sucks to be wrong ...

I've never seen one of these lose a HG under 40psi, and unless he gets a lot more carried away than he seems to be planning, he's never going to be anywhere near there. I agree, for piece of mind it's the way to go, but on his budget and with his plans I'm not sure it's an investment that will pay off anytime soon if ever. All advice to err on the side of caution is good advice, so having both sides of the argument here on the table is good... I wouldn't though, just my 2˘.

Yes gentlemen, not going to go too crazy with it. I really don't want the hp, just the mileage. Hp and torque= me spending much more money on broken parts, speeding tickets, and more broken parts! hahaha but thank you for the information! I know what to do when I get out of school and start making $$$$$

I bought a billet single disk converter and a constant high pressure valve body. No issues yet! I have a #100 fuel plate, afc modded and tuned and I get about 22 on the highway at 65 in my ext. Cab longbed 4x4

Well, incidentally, more HP with a diesel generally = more mpg with a diesel. Only to a point of course, but it's a pretty generous point. It's just how they roll, dawg. You want the mileage, you have to be disciplined with the power that comes along with it or you just have more broken parts and the same crappy mileage. "with great power comes great responsibility" LOL
