well I don't have proof either way if there is a detergent in ATF.. but I know it works good to keep the fuel in my skidder from freezing up during the winter months.

 

The thing about putting oil in the fuel (ANY oil) is lubricity. ATF is formulated to run inside a gearbox. Any intended affects of the oil's formulation apart from the basic lube function is moot when used as fuel. There is a big difference both chemically and environmentally between what's going on in a gearbox and a combustion chamber.

 

yeah .. well real world numbers wont lie ... ATF has been a great cheep additive since before you were born son .... the numbers dont lie .... and yes there are multiple additives in AFT that when burned will help remove soot and varnish deposits ... I will have to get out my camera and show ya the difference .. also the MPG numbers are staggering .... I run diesel clean almost all the time in my cummins and when I run ther ATF magicly I pick up 1.3-1.5 mpg's ... any explination ???

try it and then tell me it dosent work .. I do not recommend it as the only source of fuel but mearly as an additive added in limited amounts ... and yeah it will help with the anti- gel also ... better than HOWES Fuel Lubricator .. and cheeper

why doesn't anyone mention water injection for fuel savings? you can back that fuel plate up and add a little mist and get the same effect.. and cleaner.

when I started with my truck I was getting 13 mpg .... I lifted/leveled the front and swapped out 33's for 35's .. went up to 15.5 .... tuned up and tweeked the engine and IP .. got to 16.5 .. changed oil to Royal purple 15/40 Synthetic .. got 17.5-18 ... started pushing Shell 5% bio fuel and ATF ( with a 5 micron filter between lift pump and IP) and now I can get 19.5-20.... these numbers are final ... running synthetic oil w/Zmax and lucas synthetic stabalizer and these numbers are freeway ... the numbers in the city currently 15.5-17 .. depends ( fuel and driving habits )

That doesnt seem to me a real costly endeavor.
And if you go at it with a level head and not think dumping water in your engine with giant nossles you can get good results.

I bet yours doesn't do much of anything, either. There have been numerous complaints posted over the years regarding people who were unsatisfied with their mileage-max or other low level small nozzle-type systems. They range from no perceived MPG improvement, to using copious amounts of water in relatively short periods of time requiring frequent refills.

Unless you are ready to install a 20 gallon tank, the cost vs. benefit is just not there. How much will that run you?

EGT reduction under load (with large(er) nozzles) and power adding with 50% meth are the only truly practical benefits from water meth in a HD diesel pickup.

 

JUST ADDING MY HUMBLE RED NECK OPINION I have run 5gallons of atf in 1/2 tank did not notice any diff except higher EGT no mpg gain but I have some odd problems with my rig I get 10-11mpg highway or city with diesel no 2
