Default 97 no fuel plate no gains

Just bought my 97 12 valve at auction and I managed to get it for 3500 with only 175k miles and a 47re trans snd 4" exhaust. I got it home and drove it and it drives like any other prety much stock 12 valve but I noticed some black smoke so I parked it and took the pump apart thinking I was gunna find a slightly modoe fuel plste but instead I found no fuel plate at all. So my question is shouldn't I have a lot more smoke and atleast a little more power than a stock truck

O and it also has a bad turbo

Check to make sure your AFC boost reference line is tight and has no cracks. Also take your AFC back of and make sure the foot isnt hanging up. Have you drove a stock truck then yours just to compare? Also your stock gov springs are going to hold you back specially on an auto.

to take full advantage of no/FF fuel plates the afc foot needs to be moddified.

how bad is the turbo? it does need to make boost to move the foot

Does the turbo have alot of shaft play or just not making boost? check your boots and wastgate make sure everything is holding pressure.

Spray all the connections with gas leak detector and drive it around. the bubbles should foam at the leaks and leave a spot that looks like a dab of shaving cream. But it should give you a better indication of a leak than an unloaded idling engine.

if the turbo is shot you might wanna check the fuel filter, if its plugged no fuel gives no vroom, and if its black smoking but not moving it probly aint pushing any air. ever driven a 7.3 idi with no turbo and a turned up pump? it will blacken the sky but moves like molasses. you can over fuel and actually " put out the fire" in the cylinder with so much fuel and not enough air to clean it up

The tubo is pretty bad there is lots of play in the shaft and the inside of the turbo is caked with oil but I'm getting about 16 psi
