Default white smoke down hill

So we have a 97 f600 with a P pump 12v w/allison auto at work with 380,000miles and we use it to run appliances up and down I70. The driver is telling me while going down hill at pretty good altitude probly 9000ft it just billows out thick white smoke and sounds like its backfiring but It only does it in high altitude and once he starts to climb it runs fine. I have not experianced this personaly since I dont drive the truck so Im just wondering what you guys think. Also the truck tends to start rough with some white smoke in the morning as well

bad injectors. you are overfueling the engine on deceleration (high engine rpms and very low air flow/no load) (ahhh. a situation where your not looking to make power) so poorly burnt fuel, same with start up. leaking injectors are fueling in a situation where large amounts shouldnt be present. so when the engine revs out it seems OK because it can acually burn the extra fuel (turbo is working under a load).

if it were running like pure crap all the time i would look into slipped IP timing. this does not sound like your problem though.

They ran a regular 6bt 12v cummins in those if im not mistaken. So yes the injectors will be the same. Like turbo said, leaky injectors. You will notice it even at idle in town once it gets bad enough.

What would be the cheapest way to fix this and still have it reliable

determine that it is your injectors then either get yours rebuilt or buy an OEM size SET!!!!!!!! of injectors. can get a set for prolly 3-4 hundred bucks, but dont just throw parts at it, make sure that they are the problem, i think they are but im not there.

crack injector lines one at a time while the engine is idling pay attention to the idle speed for any RPM drops as you crack the lines. if you loosen an injector line and the RPM doesnt change there is a problem.

what ? will this tell me? bad injectors? bad IP? bad lift pump?

I'm bringing this back since I would like to get this truck running correctly. rocky mtn cummins wants $870 for all 6 injectors, is that way to much? I just need a good qaulity stock replacement. Better MPG would be nice though. What are some other companys I can call? should I call local injection shops?

the cummins part number is 3802546rx

Also I want to make the injector puller, Does anybody know the thread type that is on the injectors?
