Trying to get my Cummins to smoke???
i know its an amateur question, but i gotta start somewhere... what would be the cheapest most legit way to make my truck smoke. i dont want it to pore something awful, but i want it to have some *****. i know i can grind the fuel plate, or do something with the injectors but i dont know what the best way would be. let me know. thanks
It's people like you that are ruining the little chance we have left to even keeping the diesel engine around. How old are you? I'm guessing you're between 18 and 28. If so then I would suggest you enjoy this truck while you have it because the diesel engine will probably be outlawed by the time you're 40 if people like you keep their **** up!
You say you want your truck to smoke because you "want it to have some *****." Where in your right mind did you get the idea that smoke = *****? Statements like that are the reasons why diesel is becoming the new rice. "Rolling coal" and 18 inch stacks are just as bad as fart cans and 3 foot high wings. The people that say things like more smoke = more power are the same type of people that cut the muffler off of their civic and put a fart can on because louder = faster. Why don't you just go buy yourself a set of truck nutz? Then everyone will for sure see that your truck has *****...
There's a reason why all of the big 3 had small truck diesel engine programs 5 years ago but now they're all at a screaming halt. There's a reason we have ridiculous emissions requirements. There's a reason BMW sold a 335d two years ago with a bitchin' diesel engine but now they've replaced that model with a hybrid version. There's the reason that diesel's out number petrol engines in Europe but it's not even a competition here.
There's two reasons for this. One being that our emissions regulations are so strict, and the second one being because the average American views a diesel engine as some loud and dirty hunk of crap that isn't smooth and efficient. Both of these are caused by the fact that we have so many people out there just like you that buy a diesel so you can "blow smoke" and show everyone that "my truck has more ballz brah!"
For a lot of people on this site, diesel is a way of life. It's a passion. People who just want to blow smoke are taking more and more of that passion away every day.
So please, I think I speak for the majority of Bombers here, before you go around asking "how can I roll coal to show that my truck has *****?" please educate yourself on proper diesel performance.

well it was at the begining of the post where it all started going wrong.....
increase timing = more cylinder pressure
more boost = more cylinder pressure
more fuel = more cylinder pressure
Do all of the above and you my friend will be the proud owner of a blown Head Gasket.... Go to E bay , and buy a set of ARP Head studs and save your mods till after you have that done ... then you can have fun up to about 450HP... then after that point you will need O-ringed head and or Fire Ringed Block ..... keep it simple and stay around 350 and a set of stufs will be your biggest investment in the engine ....
the transmission is a whole nother story ... or clutch ... either way ... next weakest its the TC or Clutch

I am new here to this forum, and I agree with Horns. Diesels are a way of life for us here in the rural Pacific Northwest.
Unfortunatley, there is a serious anti-diesel campaign to remove diesels from highways here in the US, and eventually, the world by stricter regulations, and most likely heavy taxes. The general public is not only uninformed about the benefits of diesels, but their opinions of diesels are founded on misinformation, such as, diesels are huge polluters.
If you want to get a flavor of what's in store for the future, check out the U.N's Agenda 21, referred to as the Sustainability Act. The goal is to push more foolishness and false data to save to environment in the name of the EPA just to mention one agency in the US that is targeting a ban on diesels. As I tell my sons, enjoy your Cummins today while you can.
Freedom requires responsibility, or you will loose it. We all must do our part.
