Rear main replacement.
My rear main is spewing oil and i really need to fix it before i make someone mad with the oil stains. Ive done all kinds of mechanic work, from the top of the truck to the bottom, EXCEPT, dropping a trans and removing clutches and stuff like that.
I have a place with a lift i can do it at, i just need a direction to go on how to drop an NV4500, and removing te clutch, flywheel, etc.
I have two things that concern me with this operation, one is getting the trans lined back up with the engine, because i dont to get it all back together and have to take it back apart. Number 2 is what is the ft lbs of torque on the bolts for the fly wheel and the other parts that are being removed.
I know a trans removal is pretty basic mechanic work, but ive never done one, so i have no idea on what goes on. But i figured its about time i learned. If yall get get me started, id greatly appreciate it!! God Bless!

getting it out is very basic just take the stick out first. putting it back you will need an alignment tool for the clutch to make sure the clutch plate stays in the center of the pressure plate. on the pressure plate the 8 bolts on it torque to 35-45lb depending on the clutch and tighten them down in a criss cross pattern and do it a little at a time not all at once otherwise the clutch will not release correctly. the flywheel torques to 101-105lb. if you have a port-a-power that will make taking the crossmember out alot easier just take the bolts out then put the power behind it and spred the frame just a little.
What is said above, but you need a frame spreader because you will not get the crossmember back on, I have tried and gettin a bigger hammer is not the solution. And no a handyman jack wont work.
Dont ask how I know this...

get it in there caty wompus with one bolt on one site. big ratchet strap on the opposite side of the member. crank her tight then gently tap it into place with the handy 2lber. the problem is the bounce. take the bounce out with the strap and its nearly cake.
oh dave0 must be a freakin MAN! i dont think i can lay on my back, contorted and stratigically deliver a blow with a 16lbs hammer. LOL

....all of those sound like hard ways to do something really easy. after a couple hundred of those trust me its worth buying a cheep harbor freight port-a-power if you dont think you will need it for anything else.
