If you truely want to save your stock trans run a tuner module that monitors transmission slippage and cuts power when it sees it (to save you from yourself). I started out with a Banks 6 Gun and it does a great job keeping the trans safe.
Yea i heard the 6 gun is pretty safe... any idea how much it boosts your mpg?? im pretty much stock except for an intake, stock tires and everything.

THANKS! for all the help guys...

I agree. Other than the actions of an unskilled technician (reduced to a parts changer vs a mechanic) and a poor QA/QC my Banks 6-Gun system was effective. See this post for more information. https://www.dieselbombers.com/genera...es-schwab.html.

I felt comfortable with the built in safeguards in the event I would get carried away. The truck is fun to drive and has no difficulties pulling a 5th Wheel trailer.

I have not paid much attention to mileage but I would assume most tuners will help add a few mpg depending on your driving style & habits. I still miss having the Banks PDA that comes with the 6-gun system - tons of monitoring & easy to read digital. I feel happy when I can keep my foot out of the throttle enough to avg 19-20mpg on a long road trip.

Have you decided on one yet?

I have a PPE standard and i like it pretty good. I keep mine on the 220hp tune around town. I do alot of pointless driving and i almost always drive like i'm tryin to win at daytona. And yet i STILL get better gas mileage than i did in my gasser. My guess is i'm getting around 17-18 mpg average. and it's a stretch but on my weeks when i tone it down i'm probably getting 20mpg. But since i'm pretty much stock my tranny don't like my 5th tune when i put the pedal to the floor on the interstate. so i usually set it at the 160hp tune for that. whatever you do just be careful cause that stock transmission ain't no Rocky Balboa, it'll eventually give up on ya. (wow i can't believe i just made that metaphore...)

im waiting for the cash to upgrade my tranny before i get a tuner, but if i had to chose i would pick EFI for tops, then PPE then Diablosport predator as the cheap, reliable power tuner

I went with the Superchip so I didn't have to worry about trans upgrade and I really only wanted a little extra power to make up for 35's Terra Grapplers. After the warranty is up I might consider EFI Live.

I've run edge, banks, ppe, efilive.
Both edge and banks gave me problems. Edge shifts like crap, banks sets codes it shouldn't. PPE, good power, no problems. EFILive, steep learning curve, but the ultimate IMO. If you don't like something about a tune, you change it!
