Fuel Saving Tip
Are you one of the many who ride around with the receiver in your tow package all the time? If so you are wasting fuel. In my 2006 GMC 2500HD 4X4 I get 14mpg with it in.....18.5mpg with it out. The way it was explained to me is that your engine has a vibration/knock sensor. If it detects any extra or unusual vibrations it will adjust the timing to compensate for the vibrations, thus causing bad MPG. Your receiver vibrates/rattles around in the towing package, which is bolted to the frame, causing excessive vibration to resonate up the frame, to the engine, and then detected by the sensors. It saved me some $$...it will do the same for you. Try it out.
I'm with you Johnny... Works as good as dropping the tailgate going down the freeway... Vibrations from the engine are deadened through the motor mounts before they get to the frame, to reduce NVH in the cab. Therefore, any vibrations from the frame are going to be deadened in the motor mounts as well.
Diesels don't use "Knock/Detonation" sensors, only gassers do, because a diesel won't detonate even when the engine is overheated. The injector times the engine, and there is no fuel in the cylinder to "Knock/Detonate" until its supposed to fire, therefore no need for a sensor. Whoever told you this is
