Questions on making my LLY better
#41
YES, 7-9 MPG INCREASE. I DON'T FEEL LIKE ITS UNREALISTIC. I KNOW FOR SURE I CAN MAKE 7 JUST OFF THE INTAKE/SCOOP, TUNER, EXHAUST, MANIFOLD, AND KODIAK LBZ MP. ITS A STRECHING IT 7 BUT I KNOW I CAN DO IT. BUT I ALSO HAVE ALOT MORE PLANNED FOR LATER ON DOWN THE ROAD. I'M THINKING PROPANE, 2ND TURBO, LARGER INTERCOOLER, LOL BOTTEM LINE, WHEN ITS ALL SAID AND DONE I KNOW ILL BE ABLE TO MAKE 25 TO 30 MPG. WHICH IS VERY REALISTIC. LOL DONT BE AN *** HOLE, IM NOT COMPLETELY RETARDED. (ADMITTING I AM RETARDED, JUST NOT FULL RETARDED)

wishing for 30mpg is just that wishing, the best i have ever gotten was 22mpg all highway, thats with a good 65rwhp tune, modified airbox and straight pipe
Im not bein an *******, Im being very realistic, i gained 5mpg, i went from 13-15 to 18-20mpg, asking for 30 is beyond these trucks... Nothing is impossible but your going to spend way too much money trying to do something that is just impractical, Im not new to this
If you do reach 30mpg, please prove me wrong with pictures of real data

pick up any issue of diesel power magizine. you will find multiple trucks in it that have reached or exceeded the 30 mpg mark. some have even reached the 40's. its not a strech any longer. there are inexpensive things you can do to achieve numbers like that. propane kits arent super expensive. you can get a nice propane kit for under 1500. Granted its not pocket change, but its not something that would be impossible purchase. so, when you say you would like to know how to make 30+ mpg, propane, is the fast way. tons of mods it the other way.

I have driven my truck at 60mph for 300miles straight and the best I could get was 22mpg hand calculated, for a truck that makes 365rwhp and weighs 7000lbs I would say that's pretty impressive

Get the Edge juice with attitude I have the same year truck as you do and the edge smokes good on only level 3 which is like 90hp but the edge dont turn on til the engine is at or above 160 degrees. Also its fast as hell on level 3 and edge has excellent customer support and you can customize it to your taste if you get the cs or cts monitor. And the best part, on the fly power level shifting. Bully dog is good to but Ive heard that its hard on the engine and tranny but efi live would be the best.Go to Danville Performance if Danville,Indiana is close to you they do efi live tuning and its pretty reasonable cost wise.

I would say it depends on what you are shooting for cash wise. Me i want a sweet truck, but my cash is limited. So in lue of that, any thing over 410hp you are going ot have to rebuild the tranny. The tranny i am going to need for my finished fully mod'd truck is going to run me over 8k. So as of right now i am sticking with minor mod's.
Just got my new $93 Kodiak MP which in my oppinion is much better than the AFE MP ($225) i am also going to mod my intake my moving my MAS back about 2 inches, and then puting a spectre filter on it from autozone ($45). Then I'm doing heavy duty tie rods ($350) a PCV re-rourte ($45 at home depot, just buying the parts there) and then an EGR blocker with finger stick ($200ish) Then i am going to the local muffler shop and getting the muffler and cat cut out and having 3.5 inch pipe welded in for a cheap straight pipe exhaust ($120)
Not all these mods are going to make my truck king of the town, but they are steps towards my 800 HP dream truck (shooting for 20 MPG in town and 25 MPG highway, hey i can dream)
well hope this gave you some ideas.

A few of these have been mentioned before, but I figured I could give you a list of mods to get you 500HP.
Basic and cheap-ish:
PCV reroute
Full EGR delete (at least a blocker plate)
FPRV shim kit
straight pipe exhaust (3.5" or 4")
turbo down pipe
tie rod sleeves
3" intercooler pipes
better shocks
Money makers:
Lift pump
Built transmission/torque converter
EFI Live DSP5 tune from any reputable tuner
The nice thing about EFI Live is that you can have it customized to your specific set up, where as with a canned tuner, you would have to send it back for custom programming if they will even do it. You will spend the same either way. I agree that bought EFI tunes are similar to the canned tuners to a point. It really depends on who does your tuning, but they can customize options much better than the canned tuners. They also adjust more tables than just the fuel rail pressure, main injection timing, desired boost, turbo vane position and speedometer calculations.
The MPG issue relies mostly on your right foot. If you want MPG don't lift the truck or put big tires on it. Stuff like propane or water meth, is a personal preference. You have to look at how much you drive, and how much propane or whatever you will use in that time. If it takes you 100,000 miles to make up the cost of the propane kit, you won't actually be saving anything for those 100,000 miles. (That's just an arbitrary number for reference.)
Good luck.
