Default 3rd Gen Tech: Mag Hytec Transmission pan

I purchased a Mag-Hytec Transmission pan from Chris Brahs at HDR Diesel

This is a super easy bolt on installation. Practically anyone with a little mechanical aptitude, a few tools, and a place to do the work can accomplish this mod.

With a drain pan in place, begin by removing the old pan.

Leave a couple bolts on opposite corners (diagonal) for ease in draining. When ready to drain, begin loosening those bolts,
so that the pan will tip to one side. As the fluid drains, further loosening them will increase the flow.

Remove the old pan, exposing the filter. Remove the 2 screws that hold it up to the Valve body.

Install the adapter with the provided screws.

Install the new filter with the original screws.

install the new pan. Due to needing both hands for this task, there are no pics.

Run ALL the bolts on the new pan down finger tight, with the provided allen wrench.

Tighten pan bolts in a cross pattern. Double check them for snugness.

Fill the transmission with ATF+4

Check fluid level idling in neutral. Top off as necessary. Remember, the fluid will expand when it gets hot, so allow for that.

Any questions or comments are welcome!

The drain plug can be a touch more than finger tight. Anymore is bs and you'll end up breaking off an allen wrench trying to get it out. Thank you Lithia Dodge of Billings.

Some of them don't. It depends how deep the pan is. The pan I got is a Double Deep one. Spacing the filter/pickup down to about 1/2" off the bottom theoretically allows it to pull cooler fluid off the bottom of the pan... (Hot fluid is dumped on top, fluid at bottom is closest to the air cooled aluminum.) Personally, I've seen some tranny temp decrease, but more than likely that is due to slightly cooler weather. One thing I have noticed is it takes longer for the tranny to warm up, probably because of the increased capacity.
